Two days of June left

Don’t miss my June Special at FrieStyle.com

Summer flowers, warm days, cool nights, gentle showers, chirping robins, sandy beaches, mountain hikes…

What inspires you? Whatever it is, try using my cotton hand dyed fabric to make it come alive.

To celebrate the beginning of summer we are giving you a free RED fat quarter of gorgeous hand dyed fabric with any purchase of $20 or more during the month of June. This is a $6 value.

Use your free fat quarter in our newest pattern, Field Poppies . This is a quick and colorful quilt that you can download at the highlighted link. A half yard of my multi stripe fabric is all it takes to make the rest of this pattern. It is a very easy project to get you started fusing.

Helpful tip: To clean your iron place a dryer sheet on a piece of scrap fabric and run your hot iron over it . It will take all the dirt and mess off of the sole plate of your iron. A clean iron makes for a happy quilter.

Best wishes!
Frieda

New Mexico

I just returned from a wonderful visit to New Mexico. This was my first trip to this stark and sky filled landscape. I found it haunting and full of wonder. I was able to travel a bit after my teaching experience there. The guilds in Albuquerque and Santa Fe were delightful and I stayed with some lovely people. I say this all the time, but quilters are the same around the world. I am always amazed by that fact. I have found them to be generous and sharing people.

I rented a car and drove from Santa Fe up to Pecos National Monument. I arrived early and was able to walk the ruined pueblo and climb down into a reconstructed Kiva that is there. IMG_2171 IMG_2180 IMG_2182 IMG_2186

Don’t you think you would. It gets hot early, “but it is a DRY heat”. Hot is hot.

Then I drove back through Santa Fe and around to Bandelier National Monument where there are still cliff dwellings to climb into. I loved this place and found it peaceful and inviting. I could image myself as a native living and working here.

I am however glad to be back home in the mid-west where I belong. I am not sure I will ever be able to live any where else. I do love the lush green, even with the humidity. I love the green trees and harmless wildlife.

Purse

I just got back from my Santa Fe and Albuquerque trip and I will post some pictures soon, but I received this in my email today and I thought I would share it.  It just looks so fabulous, a big thanks to Beth!!!

Hi Frieda,

I took a couple of your classes when you were here in Baton Rouge, LA in February, 2009.  I got some of your blackened dyed fabric for a purse I was to make for you.

I’ve attached a picture – I hope you like it!

The purse is from a pattern by Quilts Illustrated called Bow Tucks Tote, and there is also a matching wallet from the pattern by Lazy Girls called “Wonder Wallet”.

The purse can be washed, but you will need to take out the insert in the  bottom of the purse because it is made out of matt board.

Peonies and Poppies

My Peonies and Poppies are blooming and they are glorious. I am so happy I didn’t miss their appearance. I leave again on Saturday for New Mexico. I will be teaching in Albuquerque and Santa Fe. If you are in the area be sure and stop by. I am really looking forward to seeing that area of the US, I have never been there before. I plan on doing a little exploring for a few days after I teach. If you have any place special to tell me about I would really appreciate hearing from you.

If you are in the area stop by and say hello. I’m sure the vendors will be great and you can stop in my room and introduce yourself.

Battle Creek MI

I recently taught in Battle Creek MI. I was the featured speaker at their 25th anniversary . They had a brunch out at a gorgeous venue and a small quilt show as well. Here are some of the quilts from the guild at the brunch.

I taught two classes at a wonderful Art Center in town. They had a great set up for classes. We did a dyeing class and my Autumn Glory classes. Here are a few pictures from those days. Thanks Sandy for sending the pictures my way.

Home again

I have just returned from a teaching trip to Moline IL, which is on the border of Iowa at the Mississippi River. I had a great time and my hostess Patti made sure I got out and saw the area. That doesn't always happen. I loved the area.
I love to take pictures while I am driving, a little dangerous yes, but I love the landscape I see as it flys by. I get much inspiration from these landscapes.

That is how Illinois Landscape was conceived.
