See me in person

Laura says she’ll be lonely in booth 516 in Des Moines, IA, without me to kick around (I am teaching at the show and won’t be in the booth), so come on by and keep her company, and while you are there you can pick out a unique piece of gorgeous hand dyed cotton or silk. It’s only fabric cut it up and use it.!!!

Student work

I always tell my students if they send me finished pictures of their class work I’ll put it on the blog. So here is work from Alice who took my three day class from Quilting Adventures. We had such a good time there.

Hi Frieda,

It was delightful talking with you at Quilt Festival last week.  I'm glad that you had such a good time there.  Enjoyed the photos on your blog this morning!

I'm attaching pictures of a few of my most recent works. The first is my completed first class project, "Silly Tree"  complete with crystals to sparkle it up. The red and green one is the second class project, called "Water Oak Study", 13" x 13 1/4".  The third is my version of your pumpkin quilt meant for the quilt shop to advertise your book when it comes in, besides I love the fall and have hung it in my "hallway gallery" for now. I've also done a couple little ones and have another planned for the next project. Your blue perle cotton hanks (Laura’s) nearly didn't get home from quilt bee last Tuesday.  Two of the ladies were really coveting them. Do have a beautiful fall and a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Alice

I especially like the oak leaf one, Alice’s use of repetition and color is very nice. I just returned from working in Las Vegas, it was a wonderful trip. It isn’t all about gambling there, so many people have moved there to retire and for the wonderful weather. I expected the ladies to be really glitzy and tasseled, but they were regular quilters just like you and me.

I thought I would post a few pictures you probably haven't seen yet from Houston. Laura and I had a great show and enjoyed seeing so many friends and making new ones. I am off to Las Vegas, to teach, really, and then we are off to Des Moines. I will try to post some more pictures from Houston. Later.

Inspiration

Hi, Frieda!
We met in Houston, at your booth.  I'm a member of Quilters Anonymous in Edmonds, WA.  You spoke to our guild last January, and I found your talk quite inspiring.  I needed to make a challenge quilt for our show in March, and needed to make it fairly quickly.  I hadn't done a lot of fusing, but decided to try it with this quilt.  There's definitely a learning curve, but I had a lot of fun with it.  It won best of challenge theme, as well as second best challenge quilt.  I also entered it into the Western Washington fair, where it won a second place in its category, which came with a whopping $15.00 check.
Thank you again for your inspiring talk, and for the nudge to try something new.

P.S.  This is my original design.

Quilts

I realize when I look at all the pictures of quilts that I take at shows that I really enjoy and am attracted to traditional quilts, I rarely see art quits that grab my attention. But I certainly only want to make non-traditional quilts. Here are more of the pictures I took in Jacksonville.
